Congressman Heath Shuler has made a commitment to healthy lifestyles and believes in the importance of saying “No” to underage drinking. He enjoys visiting schools in his district. He says that our children are the future of our community and our nation and wants them to get the best education they can to prepare them for their future.

Congressman Shuler is equally dedicated to preventing drunk driving and is a co-sponsor of the ROADS SAFE Act of 2011 (H.R. 2324) which would provide funding to support the development of in-vehicle technology to prevent drunk driving that is moderately priced, absolutely reliable, set at the legal BAC limit of .08, and unobtrusive to the sober driver.

FROM HIS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER: “I went to Erwin Middle School in Asheville with a group I've worked with a good deal over the past four years, the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility. They educate middle school, high school, and college kids about the dangers of irresponsible alcohol use and the dangers of drinking when you are underage. Most importantly, they use games and interactive activities to make learning about this serious subject fun and memorable for kids.”
