Over the years, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility has been very involved with strengthening drunk driving laws in Maryland. The Foundation is a member of Maryland's Impaired Driving Coalition and was represented on the 2007-2008 Governor's Task Force to Combat Driving Under the Influence of Drugs and Alcohol.
During  the last few weeks, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility, along with MADD Maryland, AAA Mid-Atlantic, the National Transportation Safety Board and the Washington Regional Alcohol Program, has met with Governor O'Malley's office, the Maryland Speaker of the House and other legislative leaders to urge passage of the Task Force recommendations.

The Task Force issued 42 recommendations to help the state address impaired driving, five of which require legislative action. On January 26, 2009, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley included them in his 2009 Legislative Agenda. The bills will be heard in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee on Feb. 17 and the House Judiciary Committee on Feb. 18. For more information on the bills, click here.
