Last week, Governor Jennifer Granholm signed important legislation that will prevent underage drinking in Michigan. House Bills 5198 and 5199 require the Secretary of State to suspend the driver’s license of a person convicted of a second or subsequent offense of selling or furnishing alcohol to a minor. This law will take effect on June 30, 2011.

The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility has honored the sponsor, State Representative Harold L. Haugh (D-42), with a Leadership Award for his ongoing dedication to fighting underage drinking. We applaud his outstanding commitment to this cause.
