3 FCCLA chapters laud 'IKnowEverything' Teen Driver Safety Challenge

In partnership with Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility (Responsibility.org) traveled to schools across the country to collect data on teens’ knowledge of driver safety with the IKnowEverything Challenge. The results from each school comprise a national study that has helped Responsibility.org bring awareness to the gaps in new teen drivers’ knowledge, and help teachers to better, more effectively educate their students on teen driver safety. Between January and May, we made it to 20 schools and reached 2,000 students!

Hear from the chapters who won a prizes from Responsibility.org for successful execution of the IKnowEverything Challenge event at their school earlier this year!

Clyde A. Erwin High Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter was selected to host an IKnowEverything student assembly in February this past year. FCCLA is a Career and Technical Education student organization whose mission is to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences Education. This assembly helped members carry out FCCLA's mission within their school to peers and community.  It was fun! Students participated interactively to questions related to safe driving. The questions allowed students to think, respond, and reflect. Students were asked questions about situational driving, weather related, under the influence or when can you pass a school bus? These teens were honest and valued the information gained!

The IKnowEverything Challenge was a highlight for our chapter reaching 300 students with 100 students participating in the interactive game. Our event was highlighted on our local news--students left with cool sunglasses, door prizes, and a worthwhile opportunity. Our chapter used this event to spark a need within our high school to create a Teen Safety Driving club. The IKnowEverything assembly kicked off the week, and the club held daily activities that allowed the entire school to get involved-- Like the "trikes and texting driving course" and the "No Text and Drive Pledge.” Students were talking about this event for a while, several asked when can we do again! This opportunity was made worthwhile because of Responsibility.org and National FCCLA.

Last spring I had the opportunity to work with IKnowEverything to have a traffic safety presentation at our small rural high school. It was an engaging presentation and the students loved to participate with the presentation and submit responses that helped to shape the presentation. As a teacher it was really nice to have a partnership with an organization like IKnowEverything that had a variety of materials and relevant statistics that really helped to reinforce the importance of safe driving. The students also really enjoyed the participant giveaways. This partnership was easy to execute, and organizing the different aspects of the presentation was incredibly easy because IKnowEverything had everything organized and followed up and communicated the needs in a very timely manner. The staff at our school was also impressed by the professionalism of the delivery. Overall, I think that IKnowEverything was a great partnership for our school and FCCLA chapter.

The IKnowEverything assembly was great to have at our school.  Since we are so small, we invited a neighboring school to attend.  The students had a great time with the interactive format and found out that they did not know everything about driving.  It is wonderful having the opportunity to host a program such as this at Upton High School. Thanks so much for everything!
