ARLINGTON, VA- April is Alcohol Awareness Month and The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility reminds everyone to do more to educate Americans about how they can help fight drunk driving and stop underage drinking year-round. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility is proud to announce several initiatives for Alcohol Awareness Month.

National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility is teaming up with Apolo Anton Ohno, the most decorated U.S. Winter Olympian in history and star of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games; Dara Torres, five-time Olympian and winner of 12 Olympic medals; The Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Foundation; The Artist and Athletes Alliance, and PE4life to host an educational event on Capitol Hill that will teach parents and kids the importance of saying “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking.

This event will not be the beginning of these SuperStars’ involvement in Ask, Listen, Learn. Apolo and Dara have both been busy spreading the Ask, Listen, Learn message to help teach kids to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking.

Ask, Listen, Learn Public Service Announcement featuring Dara Torres and State Attorneys General. Swimming SuperStar Dara Torres taped Ask, Listen, Learn Public Service Announcements (PSAs) with 23 Attorneys General from around the country to encourage kids to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking. The PSAs will begin airing around the country this month. Dara is also the newest addition to the Ask, Listen, Learn SuperStar lineup. She will also be featured in the Ask, Listen, Learn ad in that will run in April’s SI KIDS magazine.

TFK Extra! The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility in partnership with Time For Kids created a Student Guide and Teacher Guide that will be branded as a supplement to Time For Kids Magazine under “TFK Extra!” and will be bundled with the April 2, 2010 print issue of the “World Report” edition of Time For Kids Magazine. This distribution will reach 68,000 classrooms and 1.76 million students across the country.

Ask, Listen, Learn Team Captain Contest. On April 1, 2010 the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility will launch the Ask, Listen, Learn Team Captain Contest. Just in time for Alcohol Awareness Month, Ask, Listen, Learn Team members can sign up on www.asklistenlearn.com to enter the contest by writing a short essay telling us why he or she should be the Ask, Listen, Learn Team Captain. The Grand Prize Winner will get his or her picture in SI KIDS magazine next to a VIP who also says “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking.

Distribution of the Ask, Listen, Learn Interactive Activity. Throughout the month of April The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility will distribute Ask, Listen, Learn in its new interactive format, to approximately 250 schools and community-based organizations nationwide, to help kids learn about the consequences of underage drinking. Online mini-games will also be featured on www.asklistenlearn.com.

Hardcore Drunk Driving Community Corrections Guide: A Resource for Outlining Supervision Challenges, Effective Strategies, and Model Programs
. The American Probation and Parole Association and The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility partnered to develop the “Hardcore Drunk Driving Community Corrections Guide: A Resource for Outlining Supervision Challenges, Effective Strategies, and Model Programs.” This new resource is designed to assist Probation and Parole professionals in recognizing the complexities of hardcore drunk driving cases and identifying strategies to effectively supervise these offenders throughout the various stages of the justice process. It also promotes the implementation of a multi-disciplinary team approach to the community supervision of the hardcore drunk driving offender. The HCDD Community Corrections guide will be presented at this year’s Lifesavers Conference in Philadelphia and is coming soon to www.responsibility.org.
