ARLINGTON, VA – Since its inception in 1991, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility has been steadfast in its mission to fight drunk driving and underage drinking. While much progress has been made by attacking these problems head on, it is also important to examine these issues in a larger cultural context. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility is proud to be celebrating its 20th Anniversary and recognizes that the past 20 years could not have been a success without the support of remarkable individuals who encourage health, wellness, and a commitment to eliminating drunk driving and underage drinking.

As part of the 20th Anniversary celebration, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility will honor 20 People to Watch. These twenty people have distinguished themselves through their leadership, ideas and commitment to the health and safety of our nation and the idea of a brighter future for America’s young people. Young or old, established in their chosen professions, or just starting out, these twenty people are ones we are excited to follow in the future.

Haley Kilpatrick, the founder and executive director of Girl Talk, dreamed of a program that would help middle school girls deal with the pressures and anxieties of being a young teen. Inspired by her own middle school experience, her idea was simple. Her vision was high school girls mentoring middle school girls and helping build self-esteem, develop leadership skills and understand the importance of community service. She believed that if girls’ emotional needs were addressed, they would excel academically.

Today, Girl Talk is one of the fastest growing nonprofit mentoring programs in the country. It has reached more than 30,000 girls in 43 states. Currently, Haley is working hard to ensure that Girl Talk has a Chapter in all 50 states.

“I would wave my wand to make sure that every young child has access to quality healthcare and a great education, because if you’re raising healthy, intelligent young people they will ultimately solve the issues we deal with in the world,” said Kilpatrick

“Haley Kilpatrick developed and implemented an incredible program that has had a tremendous impact on many young lives. Haley has been an inspiration and a role model for middle and high school girls across the country,” said Ralph Blackman, President and CEO of The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility. “People like Haley Kilpatrick serve as an inspiration to organizations like The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility and we are proud to be able to work with her.”

The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility is proud to celebrate the innovative contributions it has made over 20 years and can attribute our success to the support, encouragement and commitment of people like Haley Kilpatrick. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility looks forward to continued progress in the fight against drunk driving, underage drinking and a safer and healthier America. Individuals who are making a difference will help all Americans move towards this goal.
