ARLINGTON, VA – Since its inception in 1991, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility has been steadfast in its mission to fight drunk driving and underage drinking. While much progress has been made by attacking these problems head on, it is also important to examine these issues in a larger cultural context. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility is proud to be celebrating its 20th Anniversary and recognizes that the past 20 years could not have been a success without remarkable individuals who encourage health, wellness, and a commitment to eliminating drunk driving and underage drinking.

As part of the 20th Anniversary celebration, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility will honor 20 People to Watch. These twenty people have distinguished themselves through their leadership, ideas and commitment to the health and safety of our nation and the idea of a brighter future for America’s young people. Young or old, established in their chosen professions, or just starting out, these twenty people are ones we are excited to follow in the future.

Julie Foudy is the former Captain of the US Women's National Soccer Team. Foudy was a captain on the National Team for 13 of her 17 years with the team. Foudy participated in 4 Women's World Cups and 3 Olympics for the USA Team. She is a two-time World Cup Champion and also a 1996 Olympic Gold medalist, 2000 Olympic Silver medalist, and 2004 Olympic Gold medalist. She finished her National Team career with 45 goals, 59 assists and 272 international appearances (caps) for the USA. Her 272 caps rank third in the world all-time, male or female.

In 2006, Foudy launched the Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy (JFSLA). JFSLA is a residential academy aimed at revealing the different kinds of leadership that exists to its students both on and off the field.

Foudy has served as a member for the Commission on Title IX, appointed by President Bush and Secretary of Education Rod Paige. She has been honored numerous times for her work on behalf of Title IX. Most recently, she received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from Smith College in 2005 and was honored by the National Women's Law Center. Foudy was named as one of the "100 Most Influential NCAA Student-Athletes." The NCAA defines the 100 Most Influential Student-Athletes as those who have made a significant impact or major contributions to society. “I’ve always been inspired by people who set the standard and don’t just follow the standard. I would like to change the mindset of the young kids who don’t believe they have the skill set to be a leader, which is what we are doing,” said Foudy.

“While many people have supported our mission, Julie Foudy is an individual that has made an exceptional mark when it comes to encouraging young girls to believe in themselves and make healthy decisions. We are proud to work with Julie, she is a solid positive role model for young girls both today and into the future,” said Susan Molinari, Chairman of The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility.

The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility is proud to celebrate the innovative contributions it has made over 20 years and can attribute our success to the support, encouragement and commitment of people like Foudy. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility looks forward to continued progress in the fight against drunk driving, underage drinking and a safer and healthier America. Individuals who are making a difference will help all Americans move towards this goal.
