ARLINGTON, VA – Since its inception in 1991, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility has been steadfast in its mission to fight drunk driving and underage drinking. While much progress has been made by attacking these problems head on, it is also important to examine these issues in a larger cultural context. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility is proud to be celebrating its 20th Anniversary and recognizes that the past 20 years could not have been a success without the support of remarkable individuals who encourage health, wellness, and a commitment to eliminating drunk driving and underage drinking.

As part of the 20th Anniversary celebration, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility will honor 20 People to Watch. These twenty people have distinguished themselves through their leadership, ideas and commitment to the health and safety of our nation and the idea of a brighter future for America’s young people. Young or old, established in their chosen professions, or just starting out, these twenty people are ones we are excited to follow in the future.

Robert McKenna is currently serving his second term as Washington's 17th Attorney General. As the state's chief legal officer, he directs more than 500 attorneys and 700 professional staff providing legal services to state agencies, the Governor and Legislature. A national leader, McKenna was elected president of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) in June of 2011. McKenna has also distinguished himself as a community leader by raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Eastside Domestic Violence Program and the Bellevue Schools Foundation (where he served two terms as president). An Eagle Scout himself, McKenna continues to serve as a board member with the Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Washington State Army Advisory Board and the Bellevue Community College Foundation (where he served as president in 2009-2010).

Ask, Listen, Learn has been a great program that really reaches people because it goes where they live, which is largely online today, and because it reaches into the schools—gives parents and teachers tools to use in school and at home,” said McKenna. “We know this stuff works. We have reduced underage drinking in our state significantly and The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility has been a really important partner for the Attorneys General in this country who have worked with them.”

“While several leaders come to mind, Attorney General McKenna is an individual who has shown a true passion for eliminating drunk driving and underage drinking. General McKenna, as the Washington State Attorney General, has had a positive impact on Washington’s youth and we look forward to his continued leadership over the coming years,” said Ralph Blackman, President and CEO of The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility.

The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility is proud to celebrate the innovative contributions it has made over 20 years and can attribute our success to the support, encouragement and commitment of people like General McKenna. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility looks forward to continued progress in the fight against drunk driving, underage drinking and a safer and healthier America. Individuals who are making a difference will help all Americans move towards this goal.
