WASHINGTON, DC-- While underage drinking and drunk driving fatalities are at historic record low levels it is important to recognize there is still more that can be done. Today, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility, a national not-for-profit organization funded by distillers dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking, recognized Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway with its 2012 Leadership Award. During his tenure as the top law enforcement officer for the state, Attorney General Conway has shown an outstanding commitment to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking.
Attorney General Conway has educated parents and children about the dangers of underage drinking and drunk driving for many years. He has hosted numerous educational events across Kentucky, taped multiple public service announcements to encourage youth to talk with their parents about alcohol and has engaged in innovative ways to spread these important educational messages via traditional and social media to reach millions of youth and adults. In Kentucky, almost 24% of kids aged 12-20 reported binge drinking. Kentucky also arrested 21,148 for driving under the influence, with almost 67% of those cases having a driver with a blood alcohol content of .15% or higher.
“Attorney General Conway has been a tireless advocate for the people of Kentucky,” said Ralph Blackman, President and CEO of The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility. “Attorney General Conway has worked diligently to address these important issues in Kentucky. We commend his leadership to help parents realize they are a leading influence in their children’s decisions about alcohol and to reduce drunk driving and underage drinking across the state.”
