The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility recognizes 22 Members of Congress with its Annual Leadership Award

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility, a national not-for-profit organization funded by distillers dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking, recognized twenty Members of Congress and two U.S. Senators with its annual Leadership Award. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility works with many elected leaders from across the United States and every year selects a group of elected officials that have been tireless and effective leaders on these issues. In 2013 these Members showed an outstanding commitment to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking in their states and across the country.

Several of these Members of Congress hosted educational events with middle school students in their districts and emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle and saying “no” to underage drinking as part of The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility’s Ask, Listen, Learn program. Other Members participated in public awareness campaigns on underage drinking and teen driver safety during Back to School and National Teen Driver Safety Week by recording Public Service Announcements for Ask, Listen, Learn and IKnowEverything, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility’s teen driver safety program, with U.S. gymnast Aly Raisman. Congressman Cleaver hosted Dr. Shaquille O’Neal, college administrators and researchers for a panel discussion on binge drinking at Historically Black Colleges and Universities during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference. Senator Heitkamp and Congressman Himes agreed to co-chair the Congressional Stop DUI Caucus. All of these Members are dedicated to the nation’s youth and their long-term health and wellness.
