Since its formation as a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation in 1972, EMF has funded nearly $10 million in grants for innovative clinical and laboratory research and continues to lead the way in emergency medicine education. EMF’s administrative expenses are underwritten by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), so every dollar donated goes directly to vital research.

In 2009, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility partnered with the American College of Emergency Physicians and its research arm, the Emergency Medicine Foundation, to study the role of emergency departments with regard to prevention and intervention of college binge drinking-related cases.  The independent research explored doctor-to-patient text message interventions as a means of altering drinking behavior. The research has been accepted for publication in Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.
