Honorable Shannon A. Holmes

Presiding Judge, 36th District Specialty Courts, Detroit, Michigan

Shannon A. Holmes is a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana. She is a graduate of Dillard University and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. She also earned a doctorate degree from the Ecumenical Theological Seminary of Detroit.

Holmes has had a distinguished career and has served the public in the following capacities: Federal Investigator for the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Detroit, Legislative Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Detroit, Judge Advocate in the Michigan National Guard, Administrative Hearings Officer for the City of Detroit, Human Resources Director for the City of Detroit, and Chief of Staff for the City of Detroit.

Holmes has served as a 36th District Court Judge since November 2011 and currently serves as the Presiding Judge of Specialty Courts, which includes Drug Treatment Court, Veterans Treatment Court, Mental Health Court, Community Court, Human Trafficking Docket, and Street Outreach Court Detroit. As such, she is responsible for the administration of restorative justice for individuals who require specialized services due to addictions and behavioral health issues.

Holmes is affiliated with several civic, community, ecumenical and professional organizations including: Renaissance Baptist Church of Detroit, Sisters of Excellence, Inc., State Bar of Michigan, Association of Black Judges of Michigan, Wolverine Bar Association, Michigan District Judges Association, Regional Judicial Opioid Project Member, National Association of Drug Court Professionals, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
